I want to put together an event for the local animal shelters and organizations in my area. I would love to have a venue where we can have artists, musicians, etc but all the money goes to animal needs (blankets, food, shelters) etc. I would like there to be adoptions going on and maybe the entrance fee is a bag of dog or cat food?

How do I organize this? Is it a good idea?

first you have the event for one shelter.people wont to give to one, not a bunch of places.you get permission from the shelter manager.and he may have some advise and help.you contact the local newspaper or papers and talk with the editor.for free advertisement of the event.also call the managers of radio stations in the area. to get free spots recorded announcing the event.no bags of food. people don't wont to lug around bags.after bothering to have to go buy at the store. just money. or donated items. that the shelter manager may sudjest people bring in.that people may have left over from animals they had previously.dog collars. extra food. blankets.food trays.etc. have games at the event.especially for children.have ballons.having entertainment is good.have a vet to inoculate animals for rabies at a low price.while your at it. that will bring in the people. have it on saturday.make signs to announce the event and signs showing the way from major roads.sell hot dogs.and drinks.call it the first annual, Help our Animal friends Festival. Good idea. good luck.ow also go to city and county council meetings and ask them to give more money to the animal shelters.get others to go with you.My wife worked at the local shelter as a vet tec. and I helped her kill the animals by injecting them into there heart a drug.and she was allways bringing h ome animals she couldnt kill.we then found homes for them or kept them. There needs to be laws protecting wildlife also.

It sounds like a fantastic idea, you might be able to start something big with that, but I wouldnt be the person to tell you how! Sorry. Really, let me know how it goes if you do it! good luck

I just thought of something, maybe start small with some friends, go to the shelters let them know your plan. Maybe you can start with just some simple donations, and move up from there? Where do you live? I wish I could help!

This is a great idea. We do something similar in Worcester, MA every year called petrock. check out www.petrockfest.com. Maybe you could contact the people that started that and see if they can tell you how they started it.
