How do I put together a benefit event?

Question

I want to put together an event for the local animal shelters and organizations in my area. I would love to have a venue where we can have artists, musicians, etc but all the monmey goes to animal needs (blankets, food, shelters) etc. I would like there to be adoptions going on and maybe the entrance fee is a bag of dog or cat food? Blankets or toys? Leashes and medications?

How do I organize this? Is it a good idea?

first of all you need extra hand, people to help you out with different tasks such as advertising the event (so people can come), getting the stuff for free or sponsored, think in who would like it to be there as companies and sell the idea.. in my country at least beers and sodas are always willing to help you out in exchange that they can sell their drinks at the event. Besides, when it comes to benefit events, check if you can benefit the companies by reducing tax.
Almost any musician would love to play in a big crowd, specially if they want to be heard, contact them and sell them as well the idea of the benefit, its basically make people fell in love with your plan, be secure and confident at all times and well organised.

This is an awsome idea! I'm glad there's still people that care about the world. Anyways I would start with finding the space, make it somewhere out in the open so a lot of people see it! Then make flyers, posters, ect. Make some sort of enterence fee or donation such as your ideas. Then show people around, let them get comfortable with you and the animals. Frome that point on, you'll be known as a hero! Good luck and have fun!

I think its a great Idea.Possibly you could get help from your local animal shelter setting this up.After all your going to need a place to hold it.Maybe they would be willing to have it there.
Make up flyer's and posters explaining all of it and its purpose and ask for volunteer help from other animal lovers and give them a contact number or email for them to reach you and join in.Another option is to contact the humane society yourself and let them know what you want to do. I am sure you will get some good help and Ideas from them as to go about it and they may also know certain rules or guidelines you will need to follow to go about it all correctly.

See if the animal shelter has an onstaff PR or Marketing person, or (ideally) an event planner. Or contact a freelancing event planner. They can either plan the event for you, or give you a consultation session to help you plan it yourself.
