How to Read a Book was originally authored by Mortimer Adler. He co-authored a heavily revised edition with Charles Van Doren.
The book gives guidelines for critically reading the texts that comprise what the authors consider to be the Western canon, which they refer to as the "Great Books."
Tips are given for approaching various genres: poetry, history, science, fiction, etc.
The book was a commercial success upon its initial publication in 1940.

Seriously, why are you reading it? Class assignment? Extra credit? Pleasure reading?
If it's for class, think about the type of test you will be taking. Ask for a rubric for what you will need to know.
Extra credit - just read then ask for more details.
Pleasure - Just read, choose a spot to read and a good time.

Always give the book about 20 pages or more before you judge if it's interesting or not.

Start off with something easy like Dr. Seuss and then work your way up. If you don't know your letters and the sounds the make, order Hooked on Phonics. Good luck! hahahahahahahaha

you pick it up then you open it and look at the words and sentences starting on the first page and progressing to the last when you finish you close it and put it down
