My in-laws are Latino, and here's something I noticed. Every year..the women all prepare the meal..and the women serve it, and clean it up after the men..and the men all just go and sit somewhere to relax. Sometimes the women wait until the men are done eating to eat themselves. Is this specifically related to the Latino culture in some way?

Picture me hooting with laughter.

Hon, that's a MAN thing! Trust me. I'm Whitey O'White (because I'm 1/2 Irish) and that's the way it was for me growing up in an all white town. And in every household I ever visited.

My inlaws are Mexicans who have married white, black and other Mexicans, and it's pretty much the same in all their homes as well.

I do understand why you think this might be related to their culture; they do have the stereotype of being macho. And while this behavior neither confirms nor denies that stereotype, it can be found in almost any household in America.

Personally, if I were ever going to host a party on a holiday, you can be damned sure that the TV will be OFF. I don't care what game is on. Why DO they put games on on those days anyway? I sometimes think it's a conspiracy....

I'm Latino and it's the way many Latino families are. But not mine! My husband serves himself and if anyone's going to eat first it's me since I'm the one who made it! Yeah, in those countries the women usually stay in the house and the men work out in the fields or whatever. I never see Hispanic men doing any housework.

In my house- the men do all that stuff and the woman watch and drink wine.

The Latino culture is macho based but so is so many other cultures. One item that you left out - the women walking behind the male.

Except for the part about woman waiting for men to finish eating what you describe sounds a lot like THANKSGIVING.
I grew up in Jersey 50's into the 70's and that sounds like pretty standard operating procedure.
.

I think it is cross cultural.

And if guy tried to lend hand he would be shooed away by womenfolk.

That is just a man thing in general. It's the woman's fault for putting up with it. If men would only help us women once in a while, they might be pleasantly surprised (more often than they are now). Wake up guys and help! You might realize all that you've been missing.

My family is Puerto Rican and the men in my family clean if the women cook, we have to make the men stay out of the kitchen because they want to cook and get in our way.

i'm a white male transplant residing interior the south, and enable me allow you to recognize, racism is alive and nicely on all sides of that coin. White, black, hispanic, asian, that's loopy down right here. One solid problem i have talked about though, is regardless of if human beings in minority communities are quick to guage in protecting with coloration, a lot of them will reconsider their outlook at the same time as they see you at the instantaneous are not racist. that's almost like racism is anticipated and the norm, a sad state really. That being reported, i'm not racist. My spouse isn't white, my baby is basically partly white. coloration ability not something to me, that's all about attitude. interpreting your question, I even might want to say you DO sound somewhat racist. not in a negative, hating way, yet labeling something mainstream as "already white" and when you consider that of this minorities opt for his or her own television/golf equipment/etc. is a racist remark. All issues mainstream are meant for each man or woman regardless of coloration. And wanting race-particular leisure and golf equipment is fantastic! do not get me incorrect. regardless of the indisputable fact that, at the same time as a lot of you right here does not see a difficulty with white-particular leisure, if one of those problem were to upward push up (moist, white hsitory month, etc.), there will be a wide outcry from many in minority communities. you recognize that as well as I do. I see no problem with being pleased with your historic past at regardless of aspect, see you later as each and every man or woman else is authorized an same.

I'm white and it's always been that way in my family. The only exception is that the women always ate when the men ate.
