I have a large green in the ground and 2 small red ones in tubs outside and am worried as I lost a red cordaline when it was covered and wrapped last winter.

Only a danger of loss if there is a hard frost. If that is forecast pull up the leaves and wrap in fleece.

My partner has a brown cordaline. She has pulled all the leaves together (pointing upwards) and tied string around them a couple of times to protect the centre of the plant. We've not had much frost yet but it's fine so far.

I lost 3 cordalines 3 year ago...then I was told to cover the centre called the crown with tin foil...I now do that with the ones I have.....and it works....the crown tends to rot with the winter months.....so like I say get the tin foil out....and you will see them next year..good luck

hi take off one of the leaves, gather the rest into a bunch and tie them together, this helps prevent frost getting into the plant
