This is an extremely extensive and subjective question that cannot easily be answered in the space allowed here. Many of the issues regarding your question are transient. What one person may think is "great" for now may be considered a waste of time later. This issue then brings up the question as to how important was "wasting" that time? It is in the nature of all beings to want to be happy as in having a "beautiful" life. What makes life beautiful is that which they try to do although it may not be beautiful to others. What a person should do is grow personally and openly as that way they will grow towards a more "beautiful" life. My answer may seem vague depending upon one's personal evolution. I could have easily written some sophomoric response such as "Doing what makes you happy".

Adding onn to Nitin, "..beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder." Its your outlook that matters. Some people choose to frown at the pouring rain and the dark sky and some run right into it and soak themselves wet from head to toe.
"Love" makes life beautiful, but using it to soothe the pain of others is what makes a beautiful life.
Example of a beautiful life; Mother Teresa, even though she touched the dirtiest people and children, she did it with utmost love.

I personally believe Life is Gods gift to us and has all the reason to be beautiful, now said that you can only have this if you see the beauty in other people whom we interact with daily, and its rightly said " a thing of Beauty is joy for all). Treat others as you would like to be treated and then every thing will fall in its place.

life is beautiful when you do things that make you happy the most. thats it. not everyone can have the same things. each one has their own interest. my life is beautiful when i go on my computer and playstation. when i go to hyderabad to see my family every year, it is part of my beautiful life.
