I received a louis vuitton purse for Christmas that was ordered onlline, not at a louis vuitton store or affiliate. the purse is new and price was 500.00 less then price at LV store. How can I determine if this is a true LV purse, a fake or defective?

Hi there. I have been collecting Louis Vuitton bags for nearly 6 years now. There are many many different ways to tell if it is real or a knock off. Mainly it would help if purchasing directly from Vuitton themselves. If not, then the ONLY website that sells authentic Vuitton bags would be eluxury.com. They are actually owned by Vuitton and sell many other brands such as Dior, Versace and much much more.

It would of course help to know which bag you own (epi, monogram, damier collection...etc...). I can then help you precisely.

Assuming you received a monogram bag (classic brown LV logos and quadrafoils on it).

I would first look for date code NOT SERIAL NUMBER. Many people call it a serial number when in fact it is called Date Code. Now, as for the code it should begin with 2 letters followed by 4 numbers. The Model number of the bag is NOT a date code and is NEVER stamped inside the bag.

Secondly....Authentic Vuittons should NEVER EVER have a tag hanging off the bag, a green envelope, white paper tags with a model number and certainly not certificate of authenticity. Vuitton does not do this.

Third would be lining. There are many different linings from Alcantara (raspberry, charcoal or beige colored). Brown cotton coated canvas lining, leather lined etc... The interior should be fine and soft. Not hard beige uneven suede like materials.

Forth would have to be stamping and if it matched the date code. Example made in U.S.A have certain date codes. made in France have others as well as made in Spain and made in Italy (mind you, only very very few are made in Italy).

I hope this helps. If you should EVER need help in the future with buying a Vuitton bag, please email me at anytime and it would be a pleasure to help you out.

Take care and enjoy your bag :o)

Bye

The easiest way to see if it is fake is to look at the LV's on it. If they cut any of them off to fit the side or bottom it is a fake. They should always be completely together and never one without the other - even on the side where it is stitched. Also the inside should be a nice suede. It should come with an authenticity card as well. What was the website? That is also important. Blue Fly sells the real deal but many others do not. I have a lot of them and always want the real ones.

FAKE!!! Totally fake. I lived in Italy for almost 4 years, where they have factories. Every LV bag is hand inspected and would never come out of the factory like that. Send it back. Even if it would have had the pictured serial number, it would still be a fake, because the LV would never be smuged on a real bag. It is painted by hand and then finished with a protective coating. Every LV is made with the best processes available. That is why they're so darn expensive. A lot of it is done by hand. While in Italy, I saw a lot of LV bags. When you find a cheap one it's either fake or stolen (possibly stolen from the factory) and either way it's illegal.

If you go to a Louis Vuitton Shop, and compare it to the real thing it should be very easy to determine. Because if it is real, there'll be no differences, but if it is fake, there will be major differences that you would never even think of.

Ok this might sound weird but, smell it. The inside that is, if it smells pretty funky or weird, its fake. Look at the stitching also, and the overall appearance or quality, that way you could tell. If not, you could always get a picture off the internet of a real LV, and compare and contrast.

I personally have heard of this discount shop and then ordered one there. Not really remarkable about their shipment speed however did save money around 76% and satisfied to find this. The quality is truly superior and till today not spot any defects.

There is a very helpful guide on eBay that will help you to determine whether your bag is fake or not...

Look inside the purse and look at the side for a tag!

~If your ego is so miniscule that you must have someone else's name on your clothing to make you feel good, don't worry about whether it's real or not. The other shallow folks in your life won't know the difference either.

The "real deal" is that someone cared enough to give you a gift, despite your shallowness.
