The hardware stores website showed the sulfuric acid in a regular bottle that looked like plumber's equipment. I think it is dilluted with other chemicals. So, if my experiment is how acids affect different metals, will the sulfuric acid from the store act differently than just water-dilluted sulfuric acid?

Some "Liquid Plumber" products have other chemicals added, some do not.

A better supply is from an Auto Parts retailer. It is sold as Battery Acid for the lead-acid storage batteries found in most cars and trucks. This will be pure sulfuric acid, but concentrated.

Yes. It will behave differently than water-diluted sulfuric acid. In chemistry, uncertainty is the mortal enemy. You need to be very careful if you plan of putting metal objects into acid. I counsel you against this, and I counsel you to look until you find exactly what you need for the experiments, or the results could be unexpected. Also, if you are a minor - you need to have adult supervision if you deal with these things. In the wrong mixture, acids can create explosions, and serious injuries.

You should go to the bricks-and-mortar hardware and auto supply stores and look at the actual bottles. If they are con. sulfuric, the label will say so. Some drain cleaners are actually strong alkalies like sodium hydroxide. Another possibility is to look for hydrochloric acid. In hardware stores, that is sometimes labeled muriatic acid.

If the stuff you got from the hardware shop was unsuitable, try at a chemist's (pharmacy)
