Answer only questions you know the answer to be factual or acurate. Do your research on the internet before responding. However, even with all that... there's no guarantee that the person asking the question will select your answer.

I resonded to a question, the person below me responded, "the person above has the correct answer" and the Asker selected his answer... go figure.

So just answer to the best of your knowledge. Also, don't create other yahoo accounts to vote on your own answer. Not only is that game pointing (and against the rules), but there isn't anything more frustrating than looking for a legitimate answer to a question from the past and finding stupid responses were selected by votes as a result.

Be the first or one of the first to answer
Stick to what you know. Give sources if possible. Pick a forum where you know more than most people about the topic, and make yourself known there.
Use proper grammar and spellling.
Take a friendly and helpful tone, even if the question seems stupid. If it's worth your while to answer it it's worth your while to answer it well.
Go into sufficient detail but don't be overly long and rambling.
Keep your answer about them, not about you.
It's ok to go back and edit your answer if you think of something better, or if it turns out you were wrong or didn't explain something properly.
Give thumbs up to other good answers, and vote sometimes. It's ok to vote for yourself, but ONLY if you HONESTLY feel that yours is the best answer. Vote for other people's answers sometimes too, if their answer is as good as yours or better. What goes around comes around.
Hope this helps.

Give detailed answers, realize people are not necessarily on the same wave length as you. Any links to a website help. If it is a physical place like a restaurant give the address and cross streets if you can.
Check your spelling, many people write so poorly it is difficult to read.

I find the key to getting best answers is to be concise and to the point. It is also helpful to answer assuming the best in people. I will also tell you that many questioners respond to flatter (good question and such). And don't forget that you can vote for your own answer when a question goes to Voting. Often times they just disappear when no one votes for best answer.

Peace!

I just try to be myself and I give 99% real answers and not that many facetious answers. I seem to get a lot of "Best Answers" that way.

Put a little more thought into the answer. Some answers are picked because the answerer wrote more than anyone else.

three ways

1) be yourself and eventually someone will like your answer best
(this is my favorite way : 0 ) )

2) Be funny and witty, and of course informative

My best friend does this she is a cheater... but it works for her:

3) Choose one that doesn't have many answers, or answer A BUNCH and keep watch on them... Now create another account for yourself and when it comes to voting for best answer because it took to long for the asker to pick, vote for yourself twice, and even ask friends to log in and vote for you

Some knowledge of the subject matter helps. Just be real. You'll do fine.

Actually look up the information before giving your gut instincts. Use complete sentences. Do not use slang. Name your source.

And vote on all your past answers.
