You can buy a plug converter at the airport or in electrical shop sin the UK such as Currys which are everywhere.

While laptop computers will work anywhere, be aware the UK voltage is double that ofthe USA and thus equipment such as hairdryers/radio may be damaged.

To get a device that actually converts UK 220v down to USA 110 volts -- Ithink it may be cheaper to buy a hairdrier/radio etc in the UK

I think you just need plug socket adaptor for the UK. I'm assuming you're coming from the US. I don't know of any problems related to 240v (vs 110 in the US) and I've got a US-bought Apple Airport Express that works perfectly well over here.

You can buy travel adapters at the airport if all else fails.
