Hard to say. Probably much less stronger than the USSR became after we helped them take Hitler (their enemy, as well as ours) out. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have done it.
And the theory is that now that the world knows the US is willing to back up its words with actions, they will be more careful. Sometimes making an example of someone means you don't have to fight again. LOTS of problems with the theory, but you have to factor it in.
The world is full of snakes, and worse snakes, and just a few civilized countries. It's a tough neighborhood! We do the best we can.

Your question is flawed, Iran is not stronger because we invaded Iraq (how would it be?). They are stronger because they have a large, organized and capable military. It's my opinion that we could take them, but it would neither be easy nor pretty. They may be obtaining nuclear weapons, or already have them. That would make military conflict a very unattractive option.
Now, why would Bush make them stronger? That doesn't make any sense.
