Now I'm going to give you a lot of info, so you can help me out, cuz I really need it! I have been using overnight pads in the daytime because I am bleeding so heavily. I will literally soak through and overnighter, in two or less hours, and I wont use tampons, because, I just have to take them out sooner. The blood is a weird colored red, one I've never really seen before, from me. It smells weird and there are many "clots" of blood. I've had my period for a year...So I know whats normal and whats not. I've had my period for 3 days like this now, and my mom is still telling me not to worry, but she always over looks things. Usually on my 5th day things get worse, and then taper off from 6-8. Is it normal to have your period 8-9 days? My first couple of days are usually really light...Please help me, thanks for all that do!

PS I am about 40 pounds underweight so it is nothing to do with fatness...

5 foot 8 and 100 pounds is not fat =D

You are seriously under weight! Have you done this on purpose? You need to see a doctor regarding your weight to be sure you haven't a serious medical problem. Although heavy periods are normal for some, passing blood clots and having a weird odor and color to the blood, is not. You need to make an appointment with your gynocologyst. Good luck to you!

Don't worry about your situation YET. Your body sounds like it's adjusting to your "new way". You will have clots, and the blood may sometimes look and smell "weird". It's a period thing. The heaviness may be something you'll need to look into later, but unless it becomes bothersome or you have physical pain or problems don't be concerned. If the flow is extremely heavy for the next 3-4 months, go ahead and tell your doc. A beginning period person USUALLY doesn't have to have their period regulated, but you COULD. I'm NOT diagnosing, I'm just telling you. It's not unusual to have 8-9 day periods, especially when your body is getting used to "the program." Take it easy. Have faith. You'll be fine. Happy New Year!

Try just roughing it out. At least you are not at school right now. I am 5"8' also and 95lbs so I am not sure if I have a regular one either. It is very heavy for the first two days then gets really light for two days then it's gone. I think the normal time range is 3-10 days.

Your period is a normal heavy period and it's ok to have a period like this. However, you can go to your doctor and get on birth control and this will help with the blood flow. As far as the being under wt. Well you know this isn't healthy and it can also play havoc with your periods. I would advise you to see a doctor for both conditions period and being under-weight.

Well, you need to gain some weight, first off. That can seriously mess with your cycle. The first few years of your period can be really weird. Why don't you listen to your mother? If you are really that concerned, then tell her you would like to see a doctor. I think you are worrying too much. Gain some weight, for God's sake.

first---- is there any possibility that you could be pregnant???when i got pregnant, my period went crazy for the first month or two, then it went away.

second---- i would recommend you using super plus tampons and the pad. i do that and i have a heavy period also and i never leak.

third---- talk to your mom about getting on birth control. it will regulate your period alot. my sister is on it and she only has a preiod once every three months for about 4 days and its very light.

I think you need to see a doctor... soon... just to be ont he safe side... what you're describing does NOT sound normal to me... and for your height and weight, you could be losing entirely too much blood for your body to handle.

And just a side note... no, 5' 8"/100 lbs. is NOT fat... but it's nto healthy either... you're about 25 lbs. UNDER weight.... remember that being too thin is unhealthy too!

Good luck!

Sounds like you may have either fibroids, a cyst, or endometriosis. It's not normal to bleed over 6 days, the least.

every women's cycle is different, you could just be a heavy bleeder, then again something could be wrong, if your mom is brushing you off, I would talk to another trusted adult and see if they can get you into see a gyn. I bled heavy and had to be put on birth control pills as a teenager to help regulate and control them, you may need this, so try talking to your mom again and if she won't listen you may want to try another adult.

I would not worry about what the other responders said about being overweight and that causing it, it is probably due to hormones adjusting which is totally normal for someone your age. See my response on your other question. :)
