The issue is only relevant to HR if the woman can not work professionaly with the co-worker she alleges had the affair with her husband. The affair is not the issue, rather the cause of the potential strain it may cause on the professional relationship between these two ladies.
HR can assist the woman in finding counseling services to deal with the problem.
Unless the alleged affair has created a disruption in business, for either ladies or other employees, there is no requirement of further HR involvement.
Be aware that getting too involved may also put you as a liability. For that, I would consult with another HR colleague, Director and/or your companies legal offices.

I assume your question is that the two females work together, and girl number #1 is sleeping with girl #2's husband; and the husband is NOT an employee there.
HR wont do anything unless the slut is in your direct chain of command. OR the issue has somehow effected the work environment for other employees. If either girl #1 or Girl #2 performance level drops because of the issue, it will be handled ONLY as a performance issue...............they cant moderate morality outside of the office space, unless it is a direct reflection on the company. The only exception to this is the military....they all have some "catch all law". In the marine corp its "Conduct unbecoming of a Marine". If the wife goes to the CEO and complains.....action will be taken.....adultery is a no-no in the marine corp.

No it's not legal for you to ask and most company's will not get involved unless it affect the company. If the affair is over then their is nothing anyone can do. Even then the company would have had to have a police in place about dating co-workers. Six years ago...sound like someone is trying to dig up some dirt from the past.

I really don't think you as a an Employer can do anything about it legally. It also happened 6 years ago. If there is evidence proving that the affair happened "on the job" there might be something you could do, but I doubt it

Don't think it's your concern, unless husband is their supervisor.
Sounds like a drama seeker, double check with a lawyer, but I think all you need to ask is for the complainer to shut up and get over it. If husband is having an affair, it's not your company's problem. I would advise keeping the 2 separated at work.

Doesn't sound like anything Human Resources should touch. The affair was outside of business matters.

as long as the affair wasn't at work, then legally there is nothing you can do! If act's were "acted out" at work, then consult an attorney...your company should have one that you can get answers out of!

Adultery is not against the law. Unless you have some sort of corporate policy against this there's really nothing you can do.
