Depends on the stage of pregnancy. Instead of having your regular doctor prescribe it, have your OB/GYN prescribe it. I did that with a sinus infection so I was absolutely sure that I could take it during the 2nd stage of my pregnancy. Works great that way because no one knows your pregnancy issues better than your OB/GYN, and he/she can prescribe meds.

It depends. Some antibiotics are safe to take throughout pregnancy, some pose known risks to a developing baby, and a host of others fall in between.

as an antibiotic, penicillin, should only ever be taken if prescribed by a dr and exactly as directed. if a dr is prescribing a medication, he or she should know your medical history including a current pregnancy.

The Dr's know what us pregnant women can take or not. My regular Dr and OB showed me in there books what is safe or not safe for pregnant women. I took two antibiotics Macrobid and Amoxocillin for a UTI.

It is the safest antibiotic if the person is not allergic to in the first place.

So make sure the person is not allergic first, and penicillin is the safest.
