Ovulation takes place, on average, about two weeks before your period, though it can vary from 10-16 days before the onset of menstruation depending on the length of your phase. During an “average” 28 day cycle, ovulation is usually expected to take place between cycle days 13-15. many women are taught to expect ovulation around day 14 of their menstrual cycle. But remember after a male ejaculates his sperm can stay in a females system for 2 to 3 days, so keep this in mind when figuring this out. There are also ovulation kits you can buy from a drug store that detects when you are ovulating. Hope this helps!!

Standard answer - see the web sites listed in other answers for details.
You typically ovulate 14 days before your period starts. If you have 28-day period, that's day 14. 27 days - day 13, etc.
Sperm can live inside the uterus for up to 5 days. So avoid getting sperm inside you for 5 days before. similarly, your ovulation may vary a bit - so make it 6 days before, and 5 days after. You're safe (28-day) from day 1-9 and 20-28, although it could get messy days 1-6 - bring a towel.
OTOH, the other name for people who use this "rhythm method" is "mommy". It has a reliability of about 80%, which means 2 out of 10 couples who use it for a year will likely end up pregnant. Ovulation can sometimes (not often) occur at other times during the cycle. Also, couples without contraception often get carried away or forget or take risks. "I promise to pull out" is even riskier than calculating safe days.
And finally, if you're doing the "Penis of the Month Club" thing, only condoms prevent diseases.

There really are no sure "safe days" because sperm can live in the fallopian tubes for up to 7 days, and even though most women ovulate on the 14th day of their cycle (day 14 starting from the first day of their last period), some can actually ovulate twice in one cycle. Once a woman ovulates, the egg can last for 24 hours, but with a 7 day window for sperm to live and possibly fertilize the egg, that actually gives quite a few opportunities. Especially when a woman's cycle can vary quite a bit and some can ovulate twice in a month. So, it is better not to rely on this method --you should just use some form of protection!

You would need to monitor your own fertility cycle in order to answer this question. You can do this by looking at the consistency of your cervical mucus and also by noting on a calendar when your period starts and ends. Do this for at least three months to get a good sense of when you are and are not fertile; if you do not have consistent menstrual cycles, you may have to do it longer.
Check this web site out to learn more about the Billings Ovulation Method http://www.billings-centre.ab.ca/.
You have already gotten a lot of good pointers from people -- sperm do live in the body up to around six days, and the "safe" days for people differ for every person and can even differ within a person if they do not have consistent menstrual cycles. So you need to really take a lot of time and effort to pay attention to your own body and what it is telling you.

Condoms can break. The only safe way not to get pregnant is not to have sex. But it doesn't seem to fit into America so pulling out will not help you from getting pregnant because the penis could leak pre *** inside the woman and that is enough to get the woman pregnant. Also since the period is when your egg is gone I'd say have sex on your period if you really can't live without having sex until your an adult and married.

The safest days are the days you abstain.
The next safest are those you use protection.
As you stated before, there is a risk ANYTIME you have unprotected sex.

pulling out doesnt help because the clear liquid that comes out before he ejaculates can also get you pregnant so your best bet is a condom
