An Intel Pentium 4 Processor 524 (3.06GHz, 533FSB)

or a Pentium D Processor 805 with Dual Core Technology (2.66GHz, 533FSB)

It really depends on how processor dependent the game is and whether the game was designed to run in dual core. Most older games will run faster on the 3.06 P4 since the software wasn't written to take advantage of the 2nd CPU core and the single core speed is faster.

I expect most games coming in the future will be dual core enabled as with other applications since there is a big marketing push for dual core technology now. Those you should see a performance improvement with.

Also consider that most 3D games are heavily reliant on the video card so with some system configurations (amount of RAM, video card type, how the game itself was optimized, etc.) the dual core 2.66GHz may even outperform the 3.06 P4 depending on the sum of its components.

I have lived and died by Pent 4 for years, but I guess Dual Core is better than HyperThreading.
