Funny, Manda. You can't even spell "phonics."

I think that the "melting pot" ideology has pressured most of us into giving up any ethnic identity we ever had. As a substitute, we have accepted individualism and general materialism (e.g. the American Dream). This creates tensions, however, in that it creates very little loyalty to community or your neighbors beyond the most thuggish sense. We have certain civic invented holidays, but you're right. We do not have any ancient history and culture that was not essentially propagated by modern media.

I don't understand you stupid statement. I was born in the United States, I am from the US, nowhere else, so it is my country. You are probably some nitwit from Europe who runs around thinking he is better than others, but guess what, while your life was handed to you from the beginning of time, we in America actually had to work for the things we have. You can hate us all day and night if it makes you feel better, but when your country needs someone to bail them out of a mess, we will be the country you call begging for help.
So be careful who you talk down too, just like the rest of the world, you will probably need our help at some point in your miserable life.

I know it may seem different for us americans but as for me this is my country even though my ancestry is : irish, german, polish and native american. That's how I think of it...this is my country but I come from different ppl. This is what we are. I was born here ..... this is home. No it isn't like the original America back in the 1500's when only native americans were (mostly) the americans, but I was raised with the newer version of America frame of mind. I do like to learn about my ancestry and the various cultures.

It IS our own country. My ancestors came here over 200 years ago. And those that move here and become citizens can immediately be American. Its great!
