I guess it is acceptable now. I think people in India now do sleep together before marriage but with only those who they are serious with. God I really hope ppl don't have one night stands or sleep with each other just because they want to be "American" or "western"!!! Do people in India do that? Sleep with someone who they aren't serious with just because they want to be American?

I live in US and god the wild things they do here - with 3/4 people at once!! :)) What the hell is wrong with them? I think as long as you are serious with the other person (like getting married) it is ok to have sex b/4 marriage. I have had sex with my fiance even before we got engaged. He lives in India btw.

I left India a while back and now when I went back I saw that things were SO different. It's a little hard to accept that people are so westernized because while adjusting to the culutral difference in US I always felt that back home (India) things are still pure and true. Things are a lot different now...India isn't India...people (youngsters) are wanna-be Americans yet they don't know the actual American lifestyle at all. It makes me sad.

I am not sure, I don't live in India anymore. I am an Indian girl living in Canada and have sort of observed a lot of change in India since I left, so I might have an outsider's perspective. But being an Indian girl, this topic is always very interesting and debatable.

I think sex should be an open topic between the two partners, and not seen as a taboo. Coming from a failed marriage, I feel that sex is not an open topic at all in our society (we have Indian society, regardless of which part of the world we live in.......lol). But I feel that most of the Indian guys don't want to talk about sex openly, even though they want it. And the ones that do talk openly about sex are hypocrites because they are just pretending to be open-minded to get the girl into bed and later to label them as "open"..very sad

Morals and ethics differ from person to person.Sex before marriage if any body feels taboo, I pity them cuz in any married relation ship sex occupies major part which connects emotionally both the partners.I feel it is the major thing which is binding Indians couples together, so their kids are happier compared to the kids of many countries(at present I am staying in US but I am from India)
Family bonding is more in India and I feel that "taboo"issue is good for both husband and wife
One more thing what ever the influence of West, and what ever the economic boom brought to India, I still feel that Indian men are not ready to marry a girl with "bad character" and even they cannot tolerate wife doing "adulteration" after marriage.I hope u agree with it.Even they do not tolerate their mothers or sisters having boy friends.Am i wrong?no
SO let the taboo be there as a protection to the families and let them live a happy life with out any perversions, which in turn spoil the families mental health.
Sorry if i hurt any ones feelings

Is this really still a problem in 2006 (2007)??
There a couples living together without being married.
I think, that the young generation has to find its own way and such things as arranged marriages by parents (due to my opinion) do never lead to something good... because things like that have to be your own choice. How can you allow anybody else to interfere in your own life?
As long as girls think that they have to stay virgin until their wedding day they never will be free and never will achieve equality to men, because men will always think that girls are some kind of object they buy at the local market.
Girls can study and have a proper career - but they are obviously NOT the owners of their bodies and minds.
That´s really sad.
Why should young people fight against something as natural and beautiful as love - making?? I will never understand that.
before getting married sex is obscene and forbidden and afterwards it´s a duty... ???? does this sound normal???

Premarital intercourse...its no longer perfect in Gods frequent. by no skill innovations what guy has to assert it truly is probably no longer considerable! what's it that God has to assert? Mans frequent is blended, Gods frequent is fastened! So we could say you lost your virginity in the past you got married and you slept with super numbers. Then sometime for the time of your existence you have been awoke to the actuality of Gods love, and Gods word. Now this might make your previous..for the main section unimportant, yet what may well be considerable is which you're honoring God, your self, and your considerable different by utilising staying organic till marriage! Ya see God would not care approximately what your previous grow to be like as long as you repent and turn from it, He does care approximately what you grow to be and what your doing at present!

If it is taboo then it is not acceptable. No need to overcome it as it is not bad. You may still have it if you want as it is not illegal. No great problem.

No, it can never be 'acceptable' in India but people may get so used to such incidents after a while that they will stop talking about them as nobody worries about how many people die everyday anymore.
