A freeway is a type of highway that is designed for safer high-speed operation of motor vehicles through the elimination of at-grade intersections. This is accomplished by imposing full control of access from adjacent properties and eliminating all cross traffic with grade separations and interchanges, and no railroad crossings. Such highways are usually divided with at least two lanes in each direction. Because traffic never crosses at-grade, there are generally no traffic lights or stop signs.

Highway designs vary widely. They can include some characteristics of freeways and motorways such as multiple lanes of traffic, a median between lanes of opposing traffic, and access control (ramps and grade separation). Highways can also be as simple as a two-lane, shoulderless road.

An expressway is a highway for higher-speed traffic. Expressways usually have some characteristics of a freeway, but in some regions roads referred to as expressways have limited at-grade access.

The Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways, commonly called the Interstate Highway System, is a network of freeways (also called expressways) in the United States. The Interstate Highway System is a separate system within the larger National Highway System. The entire system, as of 2004, had a total length of 46,837 miles (75,376 km) [1].

While Interstate Highways usually receive substantial federal funding and comply with federal standards, they are owned, built, and operated by the states in which they are located. The only exception is the federally owned Woodrow Wilson Bridge on the Capital Beltway (I-95/I-495).

Technically, they are all 4 different roads...

A freeway is a road that is "free" to use. That is, it has no tolls or direct charges to drive on. Freeways are usually limited access, but unlike true interstates, they don't have to travel through more than one state.

A highway is any road that is built for high-speed travel. Highways are typically unlimited access, compared to freeways or interstates that have large interchanges that allow cars on or off the road.

An expressway is a very limited access road that is meant for few merges. It is typically a freeway or interstate that travels between two areas where most people do not need to exit or enter often.

An interstate is a limited access road, typically part of the Eisenhower Interstate System. It is numbered under a very strict rule-set. It can be a tollway, though there are few of those open today.

It's the HIGH way. j/k. 75 is the freeway, 475 is the expressway to 75, like a short cut kinda thing. The freeway is also referred to as the I or interstate. Dixie is a highway. It's the main roads that run through town and stuff that are highways. Sorry, not as "technical" as some answers, but I am not a real "technical" person. Take care, sexy.

It depends, a freeway is a good contrast to a toll way, a highway is smaller than an expressway, and an Interstate has to be declared an interstate, otherwise its just an expressway or highway.

Their all different. Some Highways you have to pay a toll. on a Freeway, it's free. an Expressway is usually shorter than a highway or freeway, with a slightly higher speed limit. and an Interstate is a type of freeway that runs through more than one state.

So to answer your question, it depends on what your driving on!
