The guy is stuck in a traffic jam trying to get through the city of LA for his daughters birthday. He finally decides to walk, thus seeing how horrible the state of humanity is, goes completely nuts and starts killing people. The scene at the burger place is the best. See this movie!

The two main characters of the film represent middle-aged white males who, in an era of perceived deference to the sensibilities of women and minorities, and in Foster's case the shrinking importance of defense spending following the end of the Cold War, are losing their social prominence (another possible interpretation of the film's title). The issue was sufficiently resonant to be the cover story of the March 29, 1993 issue of Newsweek with the headline White Male Paranoia: Are They the Newest Victims--or Just Bad Sports? and a photograph of Douglas dressed as Foster.
Roger Ebert, who gave the film a positive review at the time of its release, stated of William "D-Fens" Foster:
"What is fascinating about the Douglas character, as written and played, is the core of sadness in his soul. Yes, by the time we meet him, he has gone over the edge. But there is no exhilaration in his rampage, no release. He seems weary and confused, and in his actions he unconsciously follows scripts that he may have learned from the movies, or on the news, where other frustrated misfits vent their rage on innocent bystanders."

After seeing the movie 3 times I am still unsure as to what it was about to the director. All the best I can tell you is that the Michael Douglass character was pushed to the point of snapping. The artsy fartsy way the director chose to show us the simple concept of having a nervous breakdown. Was obnoxious at best.

Well, my theory is that it was part of that whole "angry white male" movement they tried to start awhile back, with commentators saying that white males were being discriminated against because of favortism to women and minorities (yet white males remained in most positions of power in the government, corporate america, etc. Go figure). Anyway, Douglas was just a regular working class guy who had had enough of the "scum" in america getting away with everything and just snapped. Gangbangers who prey on the innocent, prices for everthing going out of control, everyone looking for a hand out, etc.

It's a good movie. Michael Douglas plays this poor guy, who is really good at heart, but in one day he just all kinds of bad crap happen to him and he just loses it.

It was about a man who just got sick of the way people are treated. He was fired from his job and walked across the city to get home. On the way, he experienced situations that were blatant discrimination, unfairness and uncaring people. To make his point he tried to express his anger with the system by being a vigilante.

Have seen it. The movie is about a guy who is frustrated with reality after losing his job. He decides to fight back against the culture and civilization he percieves as his nemesis. A bit bloody. You won't be smiling after seeing it, but it's a classic which is definitely worth watching.

An unemployed defence worker frustrated with the various flaws he sees in society, begins to psychotically and violently lash out against them.
He's frustrated that he can't see his own kid because his wife has left him - so he walks across the city, encountering all kinds of craziness. He's determined to get to his ex-wife and kid, so he gets into all kinds of mischief. I don't want to give away the ending, but it is definitely an intense movie.

Its about a guy whos had enough. Or maybe it is about a guy who has a bad moment but decides that his life in the bad moment is better then all his life in the normal moments. I think he knows from the very begining how this day is going to end, but is okay with it. he's had enoug of his bullshit life.
