had a bit of a prang and need to get a bumper sprayed up the right colour! i know the colour is called moondust silver but i need the code. the car is 1997(R) and is one of the rarer 'chicane' models, hence i have been unable to find out the paint code. i have looked at the VIN plate but i can't make sense of it. if anyone could tell me, or even explain how to read the VIN plate on my car then that would be much appreciated! ta.

Paint code is a number 6 .
On your v.i.n plate there is 6 small boxes on the left hand side of the square plate .
Your paint code is the 5th box down and it should have a number 6 in it .
That is the paint code for moondust silver 1997-1998 .
Go and check then come back and give me 10 point`s for the correct answer . lol

Paint code should be on the driver's door on the paper tag that shows another copy of the vin number with all sorts of other numbers listed. It is the one listed as either "Body" with a 2 digit number, or on some vehicles is in two parts with a "U" for upper and an "L" for lower. If your vehicle is the same color top and bottom then both numbers would be the same. Other codes there will show "int" for interior color, etc. ALso some other vehicle options are on that tag as well. Can take that "body" number to the paint store and they can not only mix it, but also verify in their computer or books that it is the "moondust" color you are searching for.

You could grab a Hayne's manual for your car, and that should help. Also, there are other areas for information on the car, like the driver's door jamb and under the hood. Check there for more info, or at the bare minimum, something that will just say paint code. Also, manufacturers don't produce one color for one model. Chances are, if you go to a Ford dealership, they'll have it or be able to order it, especially since it's only 10 years old...they should definitely know the code as well.

Well, on most ford cars, the paint coed is a two letter code, near the bottom left side of the sticker, that is located, in the drivers door jam. The one that has the tire info, and vin on it and such. Hope that helps. If not try to take a photo of the door jam with that sticker, and I think I can help you out there.

Go to Halfords, they have a paint code chart next to the spraypaints. It's a very comprehensive list. It's also on your VIN plate at the bottom.

Look on the car's specification plate again - the one where its chassis number etc is found. It will be on there. Usually it is three letters next to trim specification.
