We have the intelligence to overcome self-destruction. Scientists are developing enviormentally friendly energy sources. We had the intelligence to destroy the enviorment, and we have the intelligence needed to rebuild it. Not all hope is lost.

We do have what it takes. We have countries working together to reduce greenhouse gasses. We have cities planting trees in every empty space available on city property. We have scientists creating more environmentally sound technologies. We have people buying green, recycling and reusing what they have.
We have a government that quietly mentioned funding space exploration that could possibly allow a small portion of the human population to escape and populate another planet or two... for further exploitation and destruction. *sigh*
Keep asking this question. The more we think and the more we do as individuals, the closer we get to overcoming the inertia dragging us into self-destruction.

No. The issues that will bring us down are global one, and our track record on this is pretty lousy.
Climate change is, probably, the most serious issue facing us. Yet, "national" interests inhibit us from addressing it. While politicians stew, the damage has already been released, and the Kyoto Protocol & the Montreal conclave have proven that potiticians are only interested in national, short term interests.
I may sound wacko. but I think our only hope is the "black helicopoters swoop in. I.E. we need a benefical totitarartian goverment at the world level, to take global actions that prorocial regimes are loathe to do.

I believe we do, but only when we take responsibility for our reason of self destruction. Just being honest with ourselves and not blaming other people for our actions. Kind of like that saying, uhm.. admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery

The human species is naturally aggressive, thus tending to be self destructive. So I would have to say, only time will tell.

There's no way you could accurately come to a conclusion on something like that. The only way we can find out is when it happens, and it's happening right now. If you want somewhat of an answer, look around you and observe.

I hope so! As a race i doubt it because it only then takes a small minority of the race to take the whole race with them. As individuals yes. Personal battles aree won everyday.

We have what it takes -- it's called a "brain". When we learn to use our brains without the confusion of emotions, we may have a chance.
