they have a great chance of winning the Stanley cup, there getting better as a team and now they have the Sabre's number. i would like us to get another player like a veteran power forward like a Glenn Murray or something like that, but we are so close to the salary cap i don't think it would work out. cause we would have to trade enough players around to get a player like Murray. the Stanley cup is the hardest championship to win in any proffesianal sports. the Habs are looking great from Koivu to Huet, there ranked 1st in the NHL in power plays with 23.5 avg. and are tied in first in penalty kill with a 88.3 avg. and those numbers mean allot of how your team is doing as a group. Koivu arguably has the biggest heart in the NHL and shows it every game, and are defencive core are playing great as a unite. and what can i say about Huet he is simply the best in the NHL I don't know why but any goalie that puts on that red, white, and blue jersey becomes an elite player. he faces almost more shots then any other team and he leaves in the fewest, if he would face only an avg. of 20 shots a game he would also have the lowest GAA not just the best SP% in the league almost the hole year and it just goes to show you it was no fluke last year. we have a team thats playing as one and thats what matters most, and with a hot goalie there's nothing that can stop us nothing. so they have a great chance of bringing the Stanley cup home to where it belongs in Montreal, let's make it 25.

jpspencer...>>>>we have a great defencive core and out of are 8 all 8 can be on any teams top 4 defencive lines, so we are ok on defence.

Evil Spoon>>>>what the hell are you talking about Huet hasnt been playing good enough, hes been at the top of the league most of the year with his SP% as the best he he would be facing only 20 shots a game like Hasek and Guigere he would be leading in GAA also. SP% are one of the biggest stats of a goalie he faces the most shots a game and let's in the fewest, so Huet has been on fire and with the team in front of him getting better every game he will also get better cause a goalie will become his very best when he knows his team is playing as one, which the Habs are.

hockeyman...>>>>you really know nothing about hockey do ya. the Habs have one of the best goalies in the NHL if not the best, and there playing as a team, and there 1st in PP and 1st in PK in the league so that really means something and you don't know jake about the game.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Odds are against them. That said, the NHL is a league where anybody has a chance if they make it to the playoffs! Their defense is steady. I think it's good enough. They need three other things to happen:

1. They need to score more. They are not getting nearly enough production from players like Kovalev and Samsonov. I think Michael Ryder can do more, too. Maybe these guys will start to pick it up later in the season?

2. Cristobal Huet needs to keep playing well. Personally, I don't think he has been good enough for long enough to be a good bet. But that does not mean he won't pull it off! In any case, everyone knows that hot goaltending is the second most important thing for winning the Cup.

3. The most important thing of all is luck! They need to stay healthy. If Koivu and Souray (for example) go down with injuries late in the season, and they both have proven to be injury prone, then they are sunk. The fewer stars you have hurt, the better your odds.

That said, all these things hold true for every other team. If a team like Anaheim, San Jose, or Buffalo has these things, then Montreal is likely not going to win it. In this league, however, I would never put it past anybody to win it all!

Yes they do and for many reasons.
They have one of the best goalie in the NHL if not the best : Cristobal Huet.
The way they work offensively and defensively gives the Canadiens a lot of structure and ORGANISATION.
They have at least 3 trios that work very well together.
They have amazing fans, which helps them when they play at home.
Think of players likes Higgins Samsonov Markov Begin Koivu Higgins Latendresse (he's only 19 but is excellent) Souray ... etc
Whatever people say, this team has ALL the elements to make it.
However much the standings are changing, they keep a place in the top 5 for the Eastern Division, and they beat the ''best team'' of the Eastern divison, the Sabres..

What more can you ask for?? :p

This team is doing everyhting wright. There 2 goaltenders are amazing. The defence is starting to pick it up offensively, especially Souray. There the best team on the penalty kill, and dangerous on the powerplay. With the coaching staff of Carbonneau, Muller, Jarvis, and Gainey this team already knows about Stanley Cups.

They were a lot better team this year than I've expected to be. So, it's a big YES! They have what it takes to go deep into the playoffs and win the Cup.

I'll say no my prediction is the Flyers climb out of the basement and beat The scabs in the first round only to lose to the sabres in the second :P

LETS GO SABRES!!!

PS. Huet is not the best goltender in the league look at Hasek, NABOKOV, Turco and yes Miller.

Health is the key. They are one injury away from crumbling at every position on the ice.

If they can somehow make a trade for some forward depth and add another defenseman, I thin k they have as good a chance as anyone.

The Habs do not have the offense, the defense or the goaltending to make a run at the Cup. They will probably get a decent seed for the playoffs, but to win their last game, they'll need more of everything.
