I think a lot of the 2nd amendment debate hinges on whether or not you feel that an average person/citizen can be trusted with a gun. Do you trust your average citizen, such as the bagger at your store, your neighbor, your co-workers, etc etc... Do you trust yourself with a gun?
I'm not so much interested in personal feelings about guns so much as feelings of distrust of others with guns.

Wow. Judging from all the hostility, most of you are not paying attention. I am talking about the 2nd amendment DEBATE, and again, emphasize that I am interested in your feelings of TRUST IN OTHERS and not guns rights in general. Specifically, I am wondering whether people opposed to guns are opposed because they don't like guns, or because they don't like people with guns. Please stop with the hostility, I know it's a sensitive issue, but I'm looking for a personal answer to this question, not a legal opinion on the second amendment.

Well, I shouldn't say most of you, those who I'm talking about know who they are.

I trust any and all LAW ABIDING citizens to carry guns.
It's the NON LAW ABIDING citizens that I worry about.

I'd trust the bagger at Publix with a gun a lot sooner than I'd trust a Senator with a gun. At least the bagger understands that there are consequences to his actions. And quite honestly, any citizen that carries a gun typically understands the implications of doing so. And they are going to use that gun in a normal, healthy, and law-abiding manner. I have NEVER met an "average citizen" gun-owner who would wave the gun around or use it in an illegal manner. And I sure as hell trust myself with a gun, otherwise I wouldn't have several in the house and one in the car.

Given what I see at the target range, I'd trust most people. Once in a while I'll see someone there who gives me pause - someone who is careless with his gun, or an extremely poor shot - and I'll think, that guy shouldn't have a gun. But taken as a whole, I'd feel safer in a world of armed citizens than I would in a world where only the government and the criminals were armed.

Yes I completely trust other average law abiding citizen's to carry guns! I am one of those "average" citizen's. And let me tell you the so called "average" citizen has more gun training then most of your cops do! I personally would feel alot safer if I knew that my neighbor's and co-workers all carried guns.
Oh and by the way to the person that said they think you should have to get trained before you can carry a gun YOU ALREADY HAVE TO! Plus most gun owner's go as far as to get extra training beyond what's required by law.

Well, since there's been few objective answers, I'll toss in my .02.
Being an ex-cop and formerly a CHL instructor, I'll say that there are some people that have NO business carrying a sidearm (if that's what you meant by "guns"). Case in point: city counilman, a former NYPD officer, who doesn't know better'n to keep his thumb out from the backside of the slide of the Walther PPK he was qualifying with in my course. And, having carried one myself, both in the military and law enforcement, yes...I do trust myself with a firearm.
Prove to me you can operate and maintain your weapon, THEN I might trust you. Until then, stay in downrange of me where I can see you.

The 2nd amendment doesn't hinge on anything, what it states is CLEAR. If you don't like the 2nd amendment then you will have to go through to process of amending the constitution. Otherwise STFU and move to France. This is America and we have gun rights in this country.

I trust most of them as far as their intentions would be,
however I would absolutely prefer they got training on safety and use before they choose to carry.
Actually I think most law enforcement officers need RE-Training on
safety before they carry. There has been WAYYYY too many incidences this year where police fired at unarmed suspects while at the same time were firing in/at crowds of bystanders.

Are you asking if we would desire to continually be compelled to hold hid weapons? the respond is obviously no. you have met people. you in addition to might probable comprehend that one particularly unlucky high quality of stupidity: whilst it comes on the brink of different stupidity, it does not merely upload, it multiplies. placed weapons around stupidity, and that's like including exponential growth to the stupidity. and you observed what got here approximately with the "Stand your floor" regulation in Florida. The rules in each and every state, Liberal or Conservative, enable for self-protection whilst one has no different recourse...yet this regulation is going previous that and says which you do no longer even ought to look for yet in any different case to end the altercation, and you do no longer even ought to be sure a threat (merely experience "threatened") to kill harmless toddlers... Your advice is of the variety of point of foolishness as to make me have self assurance which you weren't certainly extreme yet instead have been attempting to make a shaggy dog tale. If i'm suitable in that assessment, it wasn't all that humorous. If i'm incorrect in that assessment and you're extreme, your foolishness is info that no longer all and sundry ought to have weapons (and you ought to be especially extreme on the checklist for being denied one).

If all people can carry a hidden gun, you would not know who had a gun and less likely to commit a crime as well as others.

An armed person is a CITIZEN. An unarmed person is a subject to the crown. Don't be such a coward. You should be more frightened by your government stripping its people of any means of insuring liberty.
