You don't interpret poetry. That is one of the first rules to enjoy a poem. You feel it. You let the words wash over you as you read them and you savor them. Poetry is very much like wine. You need to let it overcome you before you ponder on it. As you taste its words and enjoy the beauty of the poem the meaning will sink in slowly descending on you like a warm ray of golden light. This is the best method i know rather than, say going for a prosaic interpretation which will never allow you you appreciate the fullness or beauty of the poem and would leave you pretty bored besides.

you don't have to interpret poetry. you must feel it. and there isn't a way to feel it. you just read it and you khow it. and if you don;t feel a poem that means that for you this poem is nothing. so go to another. there are no rules in poetry.

What a reader gets FROM a poem depends entirely on what a reader brings TO the poem.
Spanish proverb: "If you would carry back the wealth of the Indies, you must bring the wealth of the Indies with you."

Personally I read it first then re-read it. I try to get a feel of the scenery and use of words to try to conclude what the poem and the message of the poem is about.

Interpret? HA. I don't :)
Wel, yes I do, but read it, if you don't get it, find the meanings of the words, and done.
Of course, you must, also have symbolical reading skills.

It varies from person to person.
I usually read and reread a poem, take a look at the metaphors, and question word choice.

Intrtpretations vary from person to person. Never take anything literally, that's even more confusing.

I just let the poem guide me and hopefully it leads me to where the author wanted me to go.
