owned a 1998 s500( guzzler but the most solid sedan ive ever driven), traded it with a 2002 clk 430 cabriolet, the worst car i've ever driven, i spilled coffee on the shfitgate once and the car stalled.

so, i guess it depends on the model.

Best handling, steering, braking ever. especially with 4matic all wheel drive. the speed is slightly disappointing. But i maintain that they are the best luxury cars on the road today. they also have the best service and reliability. The only problem is that the cars spoil you. once you drive a Benz, it is hard to drive other cars which don't have the same capabilities. That is because all of the common things in a car are done uncommonly well. all the little things are included. Some cars are boasting about having ABS. it makes me cry that people assume that as exceptional. if you want exceptional, look no further.
Also, these cars have the best blend of Luxury and sports. someone really retarded would find a way to call these cars bad. or maybe someone who really has to blame something on someone and has no time to look into people and products. The cost is High. but it is worth every penny. also, people only say that benzes are unreliable if they have abused them. People say, "Oh, I have such an awesome car, I'm goin to NYC and I'll floor the pedal after every traffic signal turns green." They don't realize that they need to be maintained, too and they have to be maintained at a dealer.
All in all, the best luxury cars on the road.

Its like taking a walk in a mine field when you get into luxury cars and which one is the best. I have owned Mercedes Benz autos since 1968. I have owned sedans, sports cars, and never a Mercedes SUV. My experience is with both diesel and gas, manual and automatic, and spans almost 40 years.
I currently own a 2006 SLK350 and traded in a 2004 CLK 230 for it. These are the most reliable cars I have ever owned (I usually have several other cars at the same time). I have never had a breakdown on the road, never had a flat tire, never had a warranty problem that was not resolved in a few hours. I have driven some of my cars well into the 200 K range and been more than happy with them over all.
The ML Series SUV, which is made in the USA, has been plagued by problems. However I know of no issues with the German made vehicles.
I have had many problems with many cars, including Toyota's and BMW's which are regarded as more reliable than Mercedes. So I guess it is personal experience that dictates choice.

It used to be. I own one of the last "real" Benzes made- the '95 E320, W124 chassis. This was a hand-assembled car with an inline 6 cylinder engine. The cars made after this one don't smell like a Benz, or look like one, or feel like one. I think this quote sums it up:

"Mercs have this characteristic which is that the engine, chassis and the interior all merge together into one feeling which is transmitted to your hands and which makes you want to drive regardless of the time or destination...makes you want to drive, and drive, and take care of it like a pet (maybe I'm getting a bit too weird by now)."

This does not seem to be true of the ones made after the Chrysler takeover (MB dug Chrysler out of the grave) in 1998. Also from what I've read in the forums and review, their reliability is unpredictable and they are plagued by many electrical problems. The dashboard frequently looks like a Christmas tree with all the warning lights indicating failures. It makes we want to cry when I drive a new Benz and it's just not the same. I would gladly take a restored pre-96 E-Class before ANY new Benz.

IMHO, BMW is the only true German performance/luxury car still being built, though I still love my vintage Benz. BMW is still its own company, and I am on my second one with no major, and very few minor problems.

I am a 26 year old real estate agent and have had 7 Mercedes, I have 2 now, Yes they are very good cars. Routine maintenance is a must but as long as you do that I'm sure you will love the car. Also the service and treatment that Mercedes-Benz provides is unsurpassed.

In general, Mercedes are good cars, but it depends a lot on the year and model. I drive a '77 450SEL, which is a great car. Sadly Mercedes changed a lot in the '90s, using aluminum block engines instead of steel. The newest models use a lot of plastic to increase MPG.

My handbuilt '77 would cost about $110,000 bought new in today's dollars, so it's not for everyone. Mercedes made a business decision to deliver cars for every household, so the quality suffers a little.

The last "Good" Benz was in the late1980's.
The W-114,W-115,W-116 and the W126 series. That is, as far as reliability and easy to fix.
I have a 1992 300SD W140, (Princess Di car) which I consider THE best road car on the market, but it is a maintenance nightmare.

I've been driving/riding in Mercedes Benz ever since I was born, so I guess I should say it's "good." LOL But it is your choice. Test drive a Benz for yourself and tell us what YOU think of it.
