As a child I had a very high IQ (it's probably plummeted since then), yet I did not learn how to tie my shoes until I was about ten. I really did make an effort, but simply couldn't accomplish the task. Since adulthood I have met many very intelligent people, including some child prodigies, who had the same difficulty learning to tie at a young age; some didn't learn until the age of 12 or 13.

Is the inability to learn such menial tasks a sign of intelligence in small children?

When Einstein was asked how many cups in a pint, he replied, "I do not clutter my mind with such."

Intelligence to me is to do something and to do that something very well. To fill your head with knowledge and do nothing with that knowledge is a waste of a good mind.

I consider the highly intelligent as the person capable of using their mind to benefit mankind. Why have such a mind if unable to do anything with it? Einstein knew the dictionary would answer, "2 cups in a pint." Knowing where to get the answer is just as important as knowing the answer. Maybe you were too lazy to tie your shoes.

Absolutely not, notice that tying shoes are coordination of hands, eyes and brain.. With that agreement, do you think kids playing video games will get smarter if they grow up? No!!

The learning process comes from daily experience and how a Brain function has nothing to do with individual or one technique or item. In other words, you can't say, you are late to tie shoes show your stupidity or you learned to talk after 5 shows your stupidity.

Every brain functions differently. Some learns quickly and some learns slowly. However, if after certain age, certain simple task should be accomplished or that will be considered non intelligence.

As for shoes, due to the fact that there are many no string shoes are coming out. tying shoes may not be that important to many of us. Therefore, this sort of learning also diminishes its importance.
