It depends on what you mean by "conservative."
If, by conservative, you mean Republican, then no... it makes no sense to be a conservative if you are middle or lower class.
If you really mean conservative, in the truest sense of the word, then all americans benefit from certain precepts of conservatism, particularly those of small government, privacy, and individual freedom.

As a Liberal, I make a point of understanding the conservative ideology of supporting corporations and giving tax incentives for economic growth. But in the end, do the poor receive those benefits? No. The rich get richer, and the poor stay about the same.
America, all the same, is a wonderful land, no matter what your party. Even if you can't go from "rags to riches" in one generation, you can get a lot farther from all the opportunities and variety of jobs in our economy. Education is available, although incredibly expensive once you get to college.
I think poor Republicans aren't doing what's best for themselves when they vote for the GOP, but the divide between working and nonworking poor is enough that they hate the welfare programs, without considering what alternatives (and there are a few) exist to replace or improve those programs.

Hint: If you want to accumulate wealth, be a CONSERVATIVE spender.. lol. I'm not rich, but I am a Republican. I usually cross party lines on every election though. I think President Bush's thinking on the budget right now is that terrorism is more dangerous to America than budget deficits. (Didn't say I agreed or disagreed).

Nope. Millions of working class Americans voted Republican because they are about big business and figured it would save their jobs, only to see their jobs outsourced to third world countries. Sounds like shooting themselves in the foot to me.

No. The dreams of partisan politics have less effect on our wealth than personal dreams and ambition. It is about going after what you want financially. The more money you get the less control you have over privacy, security, investment. Politics is a sidebar personal ambition.

IF you are not RICH
Then you should move to a developing country and try to make it there.
America's money and opportunity is already controlled by the elite. If your family doesn't have it by now. Then start looking for someplace you can live successfully.
Chili is nice. It's like post depression America with thousands of options.

What the heck has a poor person ever done for this country? Do they own businesses and hire people to work for them? I don't know what dream land you libs are living in? Not only that but being a conservative is not only about having money, its about having values. Something of which most libs know nothing about.

The only people who should vote Republican are:
1) Those making over $250,000 per year; and
2) The unborn.
The Republicans can not actually win an election with those 2 groups, so they manage to create issues to get people to vote for them. For example, the issue of gay marriage got a lot of people to vote for them, and yet there has been no legislation on this subject on the federal level.
