jenny b youare right the U,S, would still suppot Israel without their rich lobbyist paying congress and senate for their votes and I don't object to that , but, I do object to supporting Israel with so much and having them to tell the world they have America in their pockets and the fact America suppors Israel with no holds barred you might say. not condemn them for their crulety and slaughter of the Arabs women and children

Absolutely! Lobbyists are contributing to the ruining of our representative government. So are campaign contributions from major companies and conglomerates. When politicians are more worried about making sure a certain legislation gets passed because the company that wrote them a fat check last election would really like it, we need a change! The people of this country need to take back our government. I say we start from the ground up. No more donations from multibillion dollar companies and no more expensive dinners with self serving lobbyists. I don't really want to see your ridiculous negatvie ads that cost copious amounts of money. I want to hear the issues. The amount of money politiicans spend on campaigning is absurd.

No more legalized bribery.

The citizens should represent themselves. They don't need power hungry lobbyists going to Washington to do it for us. It's our responsibility as a citizen to express our views to our representatives. And f they don't respect them, it is our responsibility to not vote them into office again. Not to mention lobbying in inherently unfair. The groups with the most money or most political clout get first dibs on government legislation.

(As for your Israel comment, I don't think it's warranted. The U.S. would support Israel lobbyists or not. That's not a position of mine, simply a statement of fact.)

All lobbyists do is represent groups of citizens. Who is to determine which causes are "self-serving" and which aren't?

There are lobbyists for Palestine as well as Israel, for the environment as well as the automobile makers, for teachers as well as big business...ANYONE can lobby Congress just like ANYONE can meet with and write to their elected officials.
