To compare Shakespeare to Rowling and vise versa doesn't make sense. They are both equally good at their type of literature. I'm sure if you switched the two around, they would both have a difficult time, not to mention the hundreds of years separating the two people.
Shakespeare in his time wrote what the public was willing to read. His works are beautiful and timeless.
Rowling has - not single-handedly, but - had a big part in inspiring a generation of video-game players and boob-tube watchers to begin reading.
As for me, I love them both the same.

Comparing Rowling and Shakespeare is like comparing apples with oranges; they're not of the same breed. Rowling is an awesome writer, very creative and adventurous, but Shakespeare brings out deep emotions of the human psyche that only the truest, hardcore writer can do. Shakespeare knew people well and what made them tick. He was quite intuitive. His characters are multidimensional. Character is story, so in my opinion Shakespeare is better.

Shakespeare. And I think Rowling would agree with me. She is a fine author, but she has a long way to go before she catches up to Shakespeare.

Now if you ask, "Who do you LIKE better. . ." you might get different answers.

JK Rowling in the sense that she didnt use a lot of olden day language. And Shakespeare in the sense that "Two men in Verona" is a hilarious play.

Serious question? Shakespeare was a great literary artist, unlike Rowling, who writes for the intellectually and artistically challenged.

J.K. Rowling was soooo much better than Shakespeare at writing Harry Potter and she only ripped off a bunch of things I wouldn't be reading anyhow. Today's woeful bard shortage has a lot to do with the market being different now. If this dude Shakespeare can't write for the masses, he should find another line of work.
