Maybe I'm being silly but I am very worried about a backlash from Saddam's execution. What will happen to our forces overseas? Will the war be brought to American's front yards?

I know that things are pretty bad now and I'm not arguing that the punishment is unjust (that's neither here nor there), I'm just wondering what the repercussions are.

Wow...some of you are very angry. I am not one to quote cut and run and I care about the backlash! We have service men and women dying left and right over there. And maybe you're too young or too stupid to remember the horror of 9-11. I certainly don't want a repeat. I am just worried that Saddam will become a martyr. Maybe we should just let him rot, not let him go out in a blaze of glory. Maybe we should hang him for all the world to see...who knows. I'm just worried about the aftermath....geez!

I am very concerned and I hope our troops pull back into their bases and let the Iraqi factions fight this out for a while. The Sunni declared yesterday that they would create more problems if Saddam was executed.

No, Saddam is a Sunni. There will be some demonstrations from them and perhaps some increased violence. But right now, the Sunnis are on the losing end of things as it is. The Sunnis and the Shiites will happily use this as a further excuse to keep hammering away at and blowing each other up, if they even require excuses any longer. It's already like a Mad Max movie over there. We'll probably see a spike in violence for a week or so after his hanging, then back to business as usual - which would be the every day violence we've come to view as par for the course in Iraq.

It's another major booboo in the Bush policy debacle that will go on until the day he leaves office. The Baathists (Sunnis) have said they will step up attacks on Americans and will not agree to forming a government of any kind if Saddam is hanged.
Of course it will make things worse any casual observer could see that. American soldiers will be at greater risk thanks to Bush's stupidity...

Yes, I am. I get the feeling the GOP will try and find a way to spin this and say it was a mistake and that it caused the civil war to break out. Which of course has been going on for months anyway. And a small gullible portion of the American public will buy into it.

There will be some violence but that won't be anything new to our service men and women in Iraq. It's past time to execute Saddam. Get on with it!

I'm glad he is being hung. I think we ought to hang more dictators each year. I think the violence will probably increase in the short run especially with the Muslim holidays. We need to get our troops out of there - they should never have been there.

my thought is that saddam should be given a life sentence, then he cannot be the the martyr that he and his bath party would like to see, which would result in less violence in iraq

You are probably one of the people that can't wait to cut and run. Why would you be afraid of doing the right thing? Who cares about backlash.
