Should be okay as long as
1. Phone is compatible with your sim card (should be if it is unlocked)
2. Seller has a good history and rating. Check feedback.
Otherwise, you can get a pre-paid phone at the store for your carrier and you should be able to stick your SIM card into that one. I know people that have done that or gotten one at a pawn shop. That way you will know right away whether or not it works. If it doesn't you can think up some reason to return it.

I bought my phone off of ebay because I had about a year before my upgrade was available. The only hassle was programming the phone with my company's web browsing and text messaging formats. (which can be found on most phone companies websites or other places... just search the web)
Other than that it works great. Also, you can get phones that aren't available through your carrier in your area.

I buy unlocked phones all the time from eBay. Great way to get a new phone without extending your contract for another 2 years. If you have T-Mobile or Cingular it should work without a hitch. If you have Sprint or Nextel, you have to call and get the SIM switched to the new phone.

Yep I bought my Razr from there after the one I got from T-mobile was washed in the washer about a week after purchase.
I agree with the other poster who said T-mobile and Cingulair are best cause all you have to do is take the Sim card out and put it in your new phone.
