I know of the many consecutive winning seasons with 20 or more victories each college basketball season for Dean Smith, but I do not know who had a higher winning percentage, Dean Smith or Bob Knight as of this date.

Dean Smith exploited the lack of a possession clock on the college level and used a stalling tactic when the Tar Heels had the lead late in the game. This tactic worked well, and Smith won a lot of games, that he might have lost if there was a possession clock. Bob Knight is a more gung ho in your face coach and took a lot more chances that Dean Smith and lost more games. Thus Dean Smith has a better winning percentage, one of the highest in the NCAA Division I basketball.

Dean Smith because he won the same amount of games as Bob Knight in less games. Which means he lost less than Bob Knight has.
