Anyone have a lazy-man solution for keeping borers out of zuchini stems. I've given up trying to grow them

Thanx for the answer. I should have said a little more. The foil didn't work. The borers attack as soon as the row covers come off. And, yes squishing eggs and slitting out the borers do seem to work; but I'm trying to be lazy. I suspect their is no easy answer.

Wow, good question. My grey zuchini weren't bothered by these nasties much. You can cover the seedlings with felt-type cloth that air, sun, water penetrates -- when larger wrap aluminum foil around the stems. Sprinkle with sevin dust (especially effective when eggs are hatching). Pick eggs off of the leaves they are dull red, flattened 1 mm ovals. good luck
