I know that people typically say that the higher the thread count, the softer and more luxurious the sheets. however, i have also heard that some very high thread count sheets are actually not that soft at all. just looking to find the sweet spot.

Where the sheets are manufactured and the types of cotton are equally important as thread count. The way thread count is determined varies - sheets made in the Far East can have a thread count of 400 but if it had been made in US or Europe it would have been a count of 200. Twisted threads are counted differently in different countries. You also want to look for either Egyptian cotton or Pima Cotton. They are longer stranded and make softer cotton.

Italian manufactured Egyptian cotton sheets with 200 thread count will be "softer" than unnamed cotton sheets from a third world county with a 600 thread count.

I have sheets that have a 350 thread count and I absolutely LOVE them! They're nice and soft. They kind of remind me of the jersey sheets.

Sweet dreams!

I do not care for "Sateen" finished sheets.
Always look for sheets that do require ironing. No need to iron though.
The "Non iron ' sheets have been treated to keep them from wrinkling.
Use 100% cotton and you and go down to 220 and still have a great crisp sheet.
Get me a set too!
