I have a job interview offered on Tuesday next week [January 2], in Shoreline. Moving to Seattle/areas has been a goal of mine for the last 1 1/2year now [side move to Japan for a while, then moved back from Japan to L.A., saving up money for the Seattle move presently]. Should I accept the job interview, and go, or should I politely decline and begin my search at a better weather time of year? I'm not really worried about the cold, rain, snow, etc., it's the ice on the roads and the possibility of airport closure.
Suggestions?

I think most employers freeze hiring around the holidays. You might be more apt to get interviews after the first of the year. If you'd prefer to visit and interview when the weather improves, you might try April or May...that way when you land the job, you can move in the summer months, when the weather is the best!

Good luck!

The best time to go is aroung first and third quarters, which is January to March and September to July through September. Most employers place a freeze on hiring during the last quarter of the year to try and increase the bottom line. During the second quarter you find that most people that got jobs in the first quarter are still trying them out. Usually by late summer, around the beginning of the third quarter, people start leaving their jobs.

Go now. For most of the people I've known, it took several months to find work and if you've got a good potential opportunity, jump at it. Ice generally isn't an issue in Seattle, that's more a problem for Portland. It was very unusual for it to happen this year. Cold and rain in winter, yes. Just work around it - it is definitely doable.

Our winter weather is generally pretty mild--the big storm that knocked out the power for days was a wind storm, not a snow storm, and it's something that happens only once every ten years or so.

Come for the interview and ask if you can schedule it in the afternoon. If we do get ice, it's usually gone by mid-morning. Or just stay somewhere close to your interview and take a taxi.

Don't worry about airport closure.
