Depends solely on your menstrual flow. It's recommended to change your tampon after 6-8 hours to prevent toxic shock syndrome. Removing it too early, however, could scratch the vaginal wall, as the tampon may still be too "dry." I don't wear them, myself, but I'd guess that's it's an individual-type thing. Besides, some days it's heavy, some days light. It's going to be different on different days.

You may need to move to a different absorbancy for a couple of days. The same tampons should be kept in for a "maximum" of 8 hours, so you really shouldn't expect on the first days of your period that the same tampon will last for hours and hours. I've found that 2-4 hours is pretty typical, depending on when I use the toilet. Good rule of thumb, if you're going to the bathroom, just change the tampon if it is feeling full, don't worry about how long its been in.

well if your having to change it more than every 4 hours you should move up a level (from normal to super) so if your quite heavy and on super or super plus then you should change about every 5/6 hours but if your taking it out after 6 hours and there is still white showing and it hurts move down a level like from super to normal. but on adverage if you are using the right level or absorpancy then it should be every 6 - 8 hours. look at the string and if there is blood coming down it e.t.c then it is full.

I would change it every 2-4 hrs even if it wasn't filled. There really isn't any "normal" rate for that, but I believe they shouldn't be left in any longer than that. I quit using them a long time ago because of news and health reports against them.
