I would ask for references that you can contact. Check the firm out with the Better Business Bureau. I would also inquire if the firm is a member of a local chamber of commerce, trade organization and how long the firm has been in business. Another question relates to the bonding of the firm and the period of guarantee of the work.

How long will it take to complete the work?
- Make sure it's not going to take longer than reasonable.
What does your current schedule look like?
- Make sure his schedule will allow for him to complete
in good time.
- Also, if they don't have any work scheduled, you may want to ask why. This could be an indication of their reputation. Also if they have no work, maybe you can negotiate a price break.
Are you insured?
If you care, ask them if they plan on putting a sign in your yard. I was a bit miffed seeing one of these signs put up in my yard without prior permission.

Do you have a state contractors license? What is your workmanship warranty & material guarantee? Also get as many free estimates as you can! I have seen a price quote spread on roofing vary more that $4000.00 bones higher than the lowest quote on the same job!

are they lisenced,insured,bonded, etc are they legit in other words

ask for references (recent) and if they are insured (get proof).

also, don't pay too much up front-materials as needed.
