They'll cost about the same, only you won't be supporting a superstore that buys poorly bred abused mill animals and contributing to the overpopulation problem.
At our rescue, individual pigs are $20 each, or $30 for a pair (since they're social animals, and we require that they live in at least a pair)

Please!!! Do not buy from Petsmart. You will end up with a sick pig and pay much more in vet bills in the long run. My Humane Society charged me $10 for Eddie. A rescue that specialises in pigs is usually around $25, but they will neuter and spay them for a huge discount and the money actually goes into keeping the shelter running.

They cost about $25, only a little bit less. But the upside is, they are all spayed/neutered and they are less disease-ridden. When I got my guinea from Petsmart, he had upper-respiratory infection and a bad case of mites, to the point that he scratched up his neck and broke the skin. The hair in that area never grew back... Plus, they are all abandoned Guinea Pigs who need someone to take them home and love them. I personally think that getting one from there is a much better deal all around. Good luck!

I have had 12 guinea pigs and only paid for two of them. I paid $14 for both of them at a pet store. 8 were given to me and the other 2 were babies from one of mine. You can definately get one for less than $35. I've seen them at another pet store for $12-$20 each. Check the web for a guinea pig rescue near you. Try petfinder too.

I just got 2 cats and thus visited both the major pet stores in the area (Petco and Petsmart). Petco (at least in my town) had an area out front for displaced (i.e. owners didn't want them anymore) guineas, bunnies, rats, mice, gerbils, etc. I don't know where you are, but you could consider this as well. Plus, there are tons of families out there (I bet) who gave their little angels guinea pigs and then ended up caring for them themselves 100%...I would think you'd get some like those for FREE (and perfectly healthy) from the classifieds.

not sure never bought one from humane society. If you look at the acbaonline.com they have a list of guinea pig shows - yes they show guinea pigs - then you can get one at a local show. You can usually get a good guinea pig - even show quality for only $10. (it's a rip off to buy them from pet stores - they only pay breeders $5 -$8 for the cavies so you are getting ripped off buying from petsmart)

Depends on the humane society. Usually a little more however those piggies usually have already been seen by a vet and you get the spay or neuter included in the adoption fee. It's definately worth a shelter plus you save a life!

do no longer purchase from any puppy-keep with the aid of fact at maximum puppy-shops they take care of their animals merciless and characteristic them stay in undesirable residing circumstances. I have been given my 2 piggies from somebody off Craigslist for in basic terms $30 for 2 women. maximum human beings on Craigslist who're merchandising their pets are with the aid of fact off area themes, they'd't take care of elevating them, or a million of their guinea pigs purely had infants. The Humane Society is sturdy too. Or use Petfinder and according to danger you will come across a piggie close to you. i'd desire to furnish you with a warning it could take rather to detect a piggie you like on Craigslist yet they're SO nicely well worth the wait... I actually LOVE my 2 piggies!

Is $35 expensive? If so, then look it up on their website,
but the guinea pigs at the humane society could be a bit damaged, you know. They may have been abused by their past owner. You never know.
