For those who dont get to watch my "small market" Bluejackets, Jason Chimera is probably the fastest skater in the NHL IMO. It amazes me how a guy his size can be SOOOO much faster then everyone else. Its a joy to watch him on the dump and chase....defenders MUST communicate when he's on the ice and chasing a dman with his back turned to him...cause it wont be long before he passes them

1. Marian Gaborik, Minnesota (He's a lot like Pavel Bure was before his injuries. He just finds another gear and he's gone)
2. Wes Walz, Minnesota (The past three years when we have the team fastest skater competition, Wes Walz has beaten Gaborik)
3. Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim (his mother, Carol. She is a power-skating instructor, and Scott credits her with helping to make him the speedster he is today. In 1998, he won the annual skating skills competition at the All-Star Game.
4. Jaromir Jagr, NY Rangers (Jagr has some of the strongest legs in the business)
5. Martin St. Louis, Tampa Bay (St. Louis opened a lot of eyes in the first round of 2003 playoffs with the goal he scored against the Capitals in Game)
6. Paul Kariya, Nashville (What Kariya can do perhaps better than any other player in the NHL is go from standing still or gliding to full speed in a stride or two)
7. Sergel Fedorov, Columbus (Fedorov, a two-time winner of the NHL's fastest skater competition, has a uniquely smooth skating style, moving along the ice like a cheetah waiting to pounce)
8. Bret Hedican, Carolina (Hedican, who might be the fastest skater in the league, was schooled in the art of skating by his dad, who was a power skating teacher. "There probably is no better skater in the league than Bret Hedican. He's a natural skater. He has natural leg strength and a great stride)
9. Sami Kapanen, Philadelphia (The Flying Finn" didn't get his nickname because he wanted to be a commercial pilot; the Vantaa, Finland, native won the NHL's fastest skater race in 2000 and 2002)
10. Marian Hossa, Atlanta (He's so dangerous because all he has to do is get a step on you and either he's going to get a great scoring chance or you're going to have to take a penalty just to slow him down)

this is the top 10 list of the NHL fastest skaters.

He's not rostered right now but Konstantin Koltsov of the Pens probably is when playing.

I guess we will see on January 23rd. At least hopefully they'll have the fastest.

They should have a drag race competition where both players skate around the ice just as in the fastest skating competition but then they get clocked blue line to blue line on the back side once they are at full speed.

Jaromir Jagr is an old fart. I hate Maxim Afinogenov (even thought I'm crazy in love with the Buffalo Sabres) but I have to say that I haven't seen anyone skate quite as quickly as he does this season.
