Zito has never been on the DL in his career, he is still 28. I wouldn't be expecting him to any time soon but maybe in about 3 or 4 years when he starts to age a little bit then he may hit the DL.

He received this contract b/c he is in the peak of his career, durable and left handed. Regardless of injuries, if he averages 17 wins per season over the next 7 years, the Giants should be happy assuming they make it to the post-season.

They lost Jason Schmidt (who was their ace pitcher) to the LA Dodgers, their biggest rival, and needed someone of this caliber to lead their staff.

In another year or two, this contract will likely be surpassed by some other pitcher - someone at the skill level of a Johan Santana.

He'll never be as bad as Carl Pavano's tenure so far. Zito hasnt had any injuries so far and I can't see that changing with his motion.

It would be funny if he did it in spring training. Sort of like Burnett did for Toronto last year.
