Asking what colleges are best for pre-med is exactly the same as asking what colleges are best.

If you want to become a doctor, then you should go to the best college that you can get into -- and location should not be an issue. The good news for you is that there are a lot of good colleges in eastern Pennsylvania and in southern New York.

As for New Jersey -- it has two great universities -- Princeton and Rutgers. It also has one decent regional college (The College of New Jersey). None of the other universities in the state are particularly special. If you want to be a doctor, you would be better off going out of state than to one of them.

The following universities in Eastern Pennsylvania would be better choices. I would order them as follows:

1. University of Pennsylvania
2. Swarthmore
3. Haverford
4. Villanova
5. Lehigh
6. Bucknell
7. Bryn Mawr
8. Drexel
9. Temple

For New York, there are also lots of choices. In the NYC area, the following schools would be better choices than anything else in NJ

1. Columbia
2. NYU
3. Fordham

It is not at all clear why the above commenter thinks that some of the schools listed would be better than a school like Princeton if you're pre-med. He is right that you want to go to a good school.

Princetin is very hard to get into and while it is expensive, it also has a LOT of financial aid resources. So if you can get in then it is highly likely that they will be able to meet your financial needs.

Rutgers is easier to get into and it is a state school, which means that as an NJ resident you will be able to get lower rates.

Doing research while in college might increase your chances of getting into a medical program. You will need something to set you apart and show that you can do good scientific work. Having laboratory experience can help.

The upside of universities (like Princeton or Penn or Rutgers) is that they have graduate programs, which means that faculty have big research labs and you can get in on some exciting cutting edge research. The downside is that you are competing for attention with graduate students.

The upside of colleges (like TCNJ or Swarthmore) is that you are not competing with graduate students for attention. The downside is that faculty have smaller research agendas especially in the sciences.

Overall, you will want to go to as good a school as you can get into and take a mix of science and non-science course. You'll want to get good grades and prepare for the MCATs.

no longer extremely. the main suitable college is the main concepts-blowing college for you. all the colleges you suggested are concepts-blowing. you're distinctly late to be in simple terms picking faculties your senior 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. pass to the campuses whilst college is in consultation, take the excursions, see what the scholars are like, and get a feeling for the place you experience maximum mushy. you could, of path, do this when you have utilized, yet incredibly do this before finding out to pass to a school. Princeton is the main suitable/maximum rated of the colleges indexed, however the competition in those pre-med training would be difficult; you would be competing for A's with the rustic's, unquestionably the worldwide's, precise pupils. on condition that your tutorial checklist is so important for scientific college, i could pass to a much less aggressive college and enhance your opportunities of having extreme grades. yet another college to evaluate is Drew college. for my area i like Rutgers prepare dinner Campus yet this is greater agricultural/environmental than scientific. i'm undecided what's employing the in-state requirement, on condition that no longer all the colleges reported are public universities that grant decrease training for in-state pupils. If this is an argument of training, drop Princeton off the record. If this is an argument of distance, then many out-of-state faculties could be closer, relying on the place you reside: Penn, Drexel, Temple etc. if in western NJ; NYU, Columbia etc. if in eastern NJ.
