yes indeed, I have emails coming through all the time and can't be bothered to wait for the computer to kick into action.

When I'm researching something I haven't got time to hang about. However, I have a new faster computer so I may start turning it off...

Happy New Year, Cassandra.

No, wastes too much energy, surprising how many people keep their computers on standby, its still using up electricity, and the way energy prices are going up all these bad habits should really be stopped, suppose its up to you if you want to waste energy, I always switch my computer off at the mains when i'm finished, it dosn't take long for me to get back online, yes i'm afraid you are computer obsessed, naughty naughty!

I turn it off, but if I only out for like less than 10 minutes then leave it on

I turn it off whenever I know I won't be using it for more than a couple hours. I'm always concerned about energy consumption, and there's nothing I can miss that really matters.

Nip out? Why would one ever leave the house ?

I nuked my hard drive which took five days straight with no problems. Office computers and servers are rarely turned off unless the manager reminds you of the cost to the environment and the company.
Remember wear & tear though.
