Prepaids are billed either by directly crediting your debit/credit card when minutes are low, or you'll have to go to any number of stores and buy a refillable card.
The kind of phones you get is limited by what carrier you have and is even more severely limited if you aren't using Cingular or Tmobile because Sprint/Nextel, Vzw, or any other national carrier does not use GSM technology. And since you're not willing to bargain hunt on ebay --you're limited to what you can find in the store.
Virgin's slice is a decent phone, but is pretty basic.
But realize that you won't be getting any sort of deal with these phones. Phones are only cheap when you commit to a plan and the contract is how they get back their investment on your phone, so by paying prepaid you will be paying MUCH more for the phone, and the rates you will get will be slightly to much more expensive than you would by getting a plan.
Boost does not sell the RAZR but Amp'd Mobile does, and it's selling for $300 on prepaid. Though you do get a mail in rebate.
If you need a disposable phone, you really should not be looking for nice phones or tons of features, cause very few phones will have them. The prepaid market is usually aimed at customers who aren't responsible/established with their credit.

I have been with Virgin Mobile (who carries the Slice phone, which I now own) for about 4 years now and it's by far the best cellular company I've been with. I am no longer a fan of plans because my lifestyle and finances are ever-changing having just gotten out of college a year ago. I've had a few of the VM phones and the Slice is the coolest so far. It's sleek and small yet comfy to use and the reception is excellent. The only complaint I have is that the battery power is lacking. With my past cells, I could go days without charging, but this little guy I have to charge every other day. Otherwise, it's worth it! But if you already have a cell phone and you're worried about it, either leave it in your pocket and don't use it around others or keep it at home....
*Edit: You can't choose 4 people and the 10 pts aren't really "yours" to give. They're automatically rewarded when you or voters (if you pick the vote option) choose the best answer....

i heard from my best friend that the razr isn't a very good cell phone, plus if you were to drop, it would break instantly!! i cant help you with which phone to get...sorry. if it helps, i have a LG cu500 and i think it's a great phone, better than all the other ones I've had. it's has an mp3 player, camera, and video recorder!! i got it through cingular. Oh and with the pre-praid thing, i think it would be better to go ahead and get a plan. what if you were to be in an emergency and you needed to get a hold of someone but your pre-paid phone didn't have any more minutes on it... think about it!

I easily have a black RAZR, my spouse's is red. i'm fairly pleased with it, specifically because of its small length and skinny layout. I easily have heard human beings warn about the hinge in them, as turn phones are in all likelihood to struggle through there, yet mine is okay. strong success, the costs on those are coming way down.

You can't give points away...that's not how this works. Also, if you already have a Razr, why would you get another cell phone? As long as you don't abuse it during school it won't get taken away. I don't recommend texting during class, for example - that will get it taken away. Use your brain and be responsible.

If you get a Virgin Mobile prepaid they are under $20. They go on sale for half that sometimes. You pay ten cents per minute for anyc all. As long as you put any money onto it every few months there is no other charge (nothing per month or to activate service).

Why do you need a phone especially at school. There is no reason at all. If an emergency comes up, the school will be contacted, and they will take you out of class.
Teenagers lives revolve around phones.......but there are very few reasons why you would need one. Convenient, yes, give you a greater sense of freedom, yes......but you don't need one. Entire generations grew up with out cell phones, and they turned out just fine.

I don't understand why it would get taken away? Just put it in your backpack and only take it out for an emergency - don't leave it on during school.

What you can do is try keeping it in a secret place(locker) (backpack) and between classes use it and keep it out during lunch time.

just don't tell anyone that you have the RAZR with you. just keep it in your pocket all day and when you have gym, where you may or may not have to change your clothes (we do at my school) just put it in your locker or something.
Have you looked on http://www.boostmobile.com?
