Free music, no problem! Take your laptop to your local library and copy CDs onto your hardrive. Most have Wifi so all of the song titles are automatically added. You won't even have to check the CDs out. I've also heard of people hosting music swap parties. Spring for some pizza and beer, and have people come over with their lap tops and store bought CDs. It's a great way of getting exposed to music you may not have otherwise been interested in. As far as "free music on the Internet", I'm too worried about viruses and being sued to risk it. There are too many other alternatives.

If you want free music on the internet to listen to, you can get free music to listen to on yahoo music. Or you can go to www.limewire.com and download limewire. You can search and get free music and also transfer it to your iTunes player if you have an ipod. There is also EZtracks, i've never tried it , and you can only get like 100 songs free and then you have to pay for the rest so i would go with limewire.

On the internet there are two ways (two popular ways) to download music.
1. Downloading Torrent files.
2. Downloading using a P2P software.
For the 1st option, you need to download bittorrent.(link below)
http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html
After you have downloaded and installed it, you can visit the link I have provided below... Thats a search list of torrent sites... It is basically places online that allow you to download torrent files.
http://www.google.jo/search?q=download+torrents&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
You can click on the link above and search amongst the many torrent sites listed... Once youve chosen a site (I use a site called http://www.torrentreactor) you can search that site for what you wish to download and see if it is available or not.
The second option is that you download a P2P software. I use LimeWire, so i've posted the link below for you to be able to download it. For music and mp3 files, I would usually use LimeWire as opposed to Torrents... I use torrent for downloading when what I am looking for is rare, of very large size, etc...
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml
( link to download limewire)
Once you download limewire, you have to install it and run it. The user interface is quite easy to use so you'll get the hang of it. Install and run it, and when its open, click on File in the top menu and choose connect. In the bottom right corner there is a sort of bar-chart that shows if you are connected or not... When the bars turn color from dark red to green (or blue) it means you are connected... Then it's easy... select from the centered screen left side menu for what you want to search, AUDIO / VIDEO etc... and once you've selected your option you'll be able to specify artist's name, album name, track name... Fill the necessary fields.. hit search! and in a few second you will get results. :)
Hope I helped

Assuming you want to stay legal and not get into pirating MP3s you will be limited but some bands do demos. Try Googling MP3 Free Download

http://www.limewire.com/ is the most used free file sharing site. make sure you have anti virus running before swapping any files. the free edition of avg available from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ does a good job. once you have installed limewire do a search for limewire pro. then install this and delete the original. pro is faster.

Try using a p2p solution like shareaza, limewire and search with the names of the songs. Its the safest way to search for songs. beware of the size of the file and run an updated antivirus solution
