Not only the President but the First Lady have staff that open, read and answer the letters.

Actually, it will seem sort of random whether or not one gets a response. Usually it's a staffer sending a form letter or reply. You never know till you try though, give it a shot. :)

All sitting and past presidents receive tons of mail, you think they sit down and read it all themselves? Of course they have staff that reads it for them. Your delusional if you think your due a personal reply.

His people reply. He gets sacks and sacks of mail and sees very few actual letters. They tabulate the opinions, then brag publicly that he follows his own judgement and not public opinion.
