Is it true that some people can be dead even though they are alive?

Some people say that when you are too depressed, you are "dead" even though you are alive. Is it because when you are too depressed, you don't notice the world around you and eventually isolate yourself in your own world?

some people could be dead even if they are alive in a way that their heart is beating, means pumpig blood n all which, is a reason of survival. but at the same time people are dead because they are not able to use their brain, it doesnt mean they have a brain problem, but tht cud be a psychological reason that due to any depression or an accident or anything bad tht might have had happened with them, to them just leaves them to survive inhale and exhale oxygen, having a beating heart, blood flowing upwards and downwards intheir bodies but psychologically they r dead as they r hopeless, they are coward to face the world, their grieves leads to call themselves DEAD..

Yes and No. Someone that has a heart beat and brain activity is alive, some say we need both. People can be emotionally dead, spiritually dead, financially dead, etc. Using the word "dead" to describe such shortcomings is just a metaphor, that gets the point across morbidly.

True depression cannot be averted by a mere "talking to" or "reality check". It is a chemical imbalance which causes people to behave far from the normal blues. It is the ignorance of people which causes many of those afflicted, their family and friends to deny the problem, and never help the person regain life.

i think people say youre dead (inside) when your depressed bc you tend to care less about yourself and the things around you. you go inside yourself and think of the things a half fake smiling world doesnt take time to ponder. i dont believe you die inside i just believe that you go to another place insideyourself. i deeper darker place that is scary for most to say that this part of you, is there and alive. a part of you that needs attention sometimes to balance you out.

A person that has given up on living and is strictly going through the motions is said to be dead even though they are alive.
Life is something, for myself, that I must have purpose, meaning and fulfillment in order to live.
naturally for different people it's different things.
