I was just wondering if you have to be 20 weeks for them to do the "major" ultrasound. I have an appointment on jan 3rd with my reg OB, ill be 15.4 weeks and i want to know the sex of the baby before Feb 3rd, so i was wondering if i requested the ultrasound to be when im between 18-19 weeks if they will do it then or make me wait? Thanks so much!!

Generally speaking they will be able to see the same things at 18-19 weeks as they will at 20. Some OB's are against anything earlier, just talk to him/her about it and I am sure they will help you out.

The 20 week ultrasound is ordered anywhere between 18-22 weeks. You should be fine if you're appointment is at 18 weeks.

The ideal time for seeing the sex of the baby is 20 to 24 weeks, but it is more than possible by the 18th week.

It was impossible for me to know the sex of either of my babies before they were born because they both kept their legs closed, but being surprised both times was wonderful.

Can I tell you something you don't want to hear? When it comes to pregnancy, it is best to take every opportunity you need to learn patience. You need it for motherhood. Too few things about parenting, or life with children, go the way we want them to. And, the best things are all worth waiting for.

Ask your doc.
It is best to do the diagnostic U/S as close to 20 weeks as possible. 18-19 weeks is fine. I had mine at 19 weeks and it was fine.
Why do you need to know the sex before Feb. 3rd? Just curious.
Good luck and Congrats!

I had mine done at 19 weeks and they feel it was accurate...we won't know til the baby is born but I think once you reach the area of 18-20 weeks they can get a good look at the parts you need to see :)

I was 18 weeks when I had mine and they could see everything just fine, including the sex of the baby. I don't see why they would care if you made the appt a little early. Good luck.

The Insurance companies usually only pay for one, and usually it is at the 22nd week. So good luck on convincing your doctor or the insurance company to do one before that. Also if it is at all possible try to get a 3D ultrasound around the 24th week, it is so cool and you will definitely be able to tell the sex. I paid for mine, but it was well worth it.

You can do it a little earlier, but I've heard that the closer you get to 20 weeks, the easier they can tell the sex of the baby.

They may be able to tell, it depends how the baby is laying. They never say they are 100% anyway.Be nice when you go in and ask, they may have an extra glance to see if they can see anything for you.
Good luck xx

sorry, but we don't know what YOUR dr will do. no, your big ultrasound doesn't have to be exactly at 20 wks, however, if your dr wants it done then, then why argue. go with the flow.
