What does it mean when you lose your mucus plug? Does it mean something is happening? I'm 18 weeks and had a car accident day before yesterday, this morning I lost my plug, I know that's what it was but I've never had it happen this early. I have a doctors appointment in about half an hour. Is it possible to carry the baby to term without a mucus plug?

Usually the mucus plug supposedly breaks up a few days before you're going to have your baby...that's the rumor. BUT , it doesn't really matter if you lose your mucus plug because as long as the baby is okay and still creating amniotic fluids, a mucus plug will be created all over again. I lost my mucus plug three weeks before my daughter was born and asked my OB and this is what she told me. So your baby wil create a new mucus plug...no worries. Your OB will let you know either way. Good luck and I hope everything goes well!

I have herd that you can loose your plug anything up to 2 weeks before going into labour. With my first daughter I lost my plug the day before I went into labour, but I had an 18 hour labour. I'm sure that with you having been in a car accident if you ask to be checked they should do this thoroughly and be able to monitor the baby to make sure all is ok. I also herd that if you have already had a baby you don't always have a mucus plug.. don't know how true this is.
Good luck xx

Don't worry, your mucus plug will reform and you will be fine. If the baby isn't ready to be born yet the plug will form itself again...it's only when it happens toward the end of your third trimester that it means you'll deliver. It's good to get yourself checked out though.....I was also in a nasty car accident when I was 9 weeks pregnant and it will just reassure you that baby is doing fine :)
