Guinea pigs are prey animals, so they will run away from practically anything bigger than them. The way you're describing, they are running away and popcorning. That means they are excited and happy. Try hand feeding them some veggies, they will get more used to you and associate you with something good. Guinea pigs are very active, so when they're on the floor together, they will generally want to run around and explore more than sit in one spot unless they're scared. When trying to pick them up, be sure to move slowly so you don't scare them. It's generally easier to pick them up when they're in a hidey house rather than out in the open.

pig003 I could hug you right now! You're the only one on here who has answered CORRECTLY. Guinea pigs make many different noises and different body gestures. Reading up on them will really help you out. Squeaking for instance can mean a few things:
They're hungry
Looking for attention
Possible communicating with one another

I have had up to 20 guinea pigs at one time and have bred them. They are very nervous creatures and read that a loud noise can actually kill them. If you clean them and feed them regularly ,also talk to them in a gentle voice, they will respond.Animals are like people and some guinea pigs are braver than others. If you pick one up put your hand under its tummy and the other under its bottom so it feels secure. Then hold it either in your lap or flat against your chest, and stoke it gently.Just be patient and gentle and they will reward you.The noise they make is usually to greet you especially if you feed them, its a form of communication if they are scared or pleased, but don"t ask me which.good luck, I love them.

I have never met a guinea pig that did not act like that. It is nothing you are doing. Just always be very gentle.

Most guinea pigs are like that. You need to handle them more or approach them with a chunk of cucumber in hand, they love that.

Need to handle them with a bit more care, stop squeezing the poor little things half to death, gentle as you go.
